Well... there is a cap because this is a computer game, and every value has to have some sort of range. In the case of favor, the cap was probably decided upon based on testing and observations from the GW Beta.
Regardless, wasn't the original intention of favor to foster a sort of competitiveness between different regions of the world? Access to places like the FoW & UW were rewards for your region doing well.
Now, though, it's sort of lost its meaning. Maybe what is really called for is abandoning the whole concept, and just allowing us into the areas anytime. Does favor have any other effect?
As to the issue w/ the favor rolling over, well I think they should either waive the UW/FoW fee for a period of time, or otherwise apply another max amt of favor once the current allotment runs out...

BUT...
I certainly do see the OP's original point. Why go to all the trouble to do an update, write an announcement explaining it, and risk pissing people off (which they obviously did, regardless), all over a measly 7k points, when the actual accounting error is tens-of-thousands of points in the other direction?
Being that anal is just unattractive and stupid. (Honestly, the other word I'm looking for is "unfair", but we all know how "fair" life is, so I'll refrain.)
Everyone should let the subject rest, and that INCLUDES Anet.

The did it because morally it was the right thing to do. If you make an error you confess to it and hope that there are enough sensible people to understand it. Apparently they were wrong about some people who post on this forum, who only look for things to complain about. What if the error was the other way and they said they had subtracted 7000 minutes and had put them back would we still be discussing this?

Tunnel vision usually makes bad arguments. For example, lot of the general public in America believes that "the second law of thermodynamics disproves the possibility of evolution of happening on earth". Of course this is true IF the earth was the only thing in the universe, but that isn't true. The Sun is pumping energy ever moment into our planet, not much of a isolated or closed system. So the argument fails because it doesn't take into consideration of outside influences.
Same can be applied here, if there was an addition of 7k minute only, I think any reasonable person would not complain about the removal. But this isn't the case, there is that first loss of more than 4 time that amount. Most of the complaint are people who like whoever is making this decision to look at the circumstances around it.
Also if the reversed happened, that 36k minutes were added, and 7k of that were removed, the I would have no problem with an additional removal of 29K minutes, because truly those would be unearned minutes.
Next subject is the possible lowering of the favor cap/ceiling. I would have no problem with this, even if it would result in subtraction of minute when the ceiling is lowered, but as long as the cap is reasonable. I feel a fair cap would be 20k minutes(~2 weeks). This would make it so if A-net does make a very popular PvE weekend, and a lot of minutes occur that it gets capped, the benefits will last til the next PvE weekend.
Now you must wonder why I would support a 12K reduction over a 7k. Simply saying, it what most people were complaining about, the method. Reducing the cap, as long as it reasonably high, is fair, while choosing to adjust favor for one error over another seems biased. Anet never saw 50K+ minutes being added from just one weekend. If they did they would have added the cap to begin with, and avoid this situation. I believe Anet should be allow to adapt there game for this new occurrence, which would be better for the whole community.
The double sunspear/lightbringer weekend was a very popular and successful weekend see how many people participated and were successful with maxing their titles. Unfortunately because favor is so high, i believe anet will avoid great weekends like these, with fear that the favor will go the stratosphere again. That why I'm for the cap, to bring more great weekend like those into the pve portion of the game.
Like I have said many times, and I'm sure those who agree with me also, it about the method. It a slippery slope, and small start turning into to large things.

I have np with excessive favor. I see favor needed to access those areas as... for lack of a better word...ghey. I would like to see the screen spam of titles maxing, hoh wins, favor of the gods in green chat and favor of the gods in general removed from the game.

Well, I would, but the whole subject is pretty moot, after Gaile's response.
It took me quite a few, very confusing, minutes to realize that the thread I originally posted in must've been merged with another, since my post went from page 1 to page 4, and a post by Gaile magically appeared in there. ^_^
Ignore my posts. I never would have made them after Gaile's. Not because I'm a fanboy, but simply because the point had been made. No need to keep pummeling the poor horse.
